Alexander Calder Postcard

A rare piece of ephemera, this postcard has been embellished with an original drawing and vibrant hand coloring by Alexander Calder. Calder sent the card to Franco-Hungarian sculptor István (Etienne) Beöthy in Montrouge, France, to announce his impending arrival in Paris at the end of June 1958. The overlay drawing constitutes a fanciful “collaboration entre vaches et sculpteur” (“collaboration between cows and sculptor”), as titled by Calder.
