This screenprinted poster was published on the occasion of Andy’s Warhol’s first major retrospective, which was presented in 1970 at the Pasadena Art Museum (now the Norton Simon Museum) in California. It reproduces a variation of Warhol’s trademark composition of a Brillo carton in brilliant yellow and blue on a green ground, with the artist’s name and exhibition details in red. The exhibition was on view from May 12 to June 21, 1970 at the museum’s Carmelita Park location, which had opened the year earlier. Curated by John Coplans, the exhibition traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; the Musée d’Art moderne de Paris; Tate, London; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
